The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), PROTECT IP Bill and Cybersecurity

The Stop Online Piracy Act in the House and PROTECT IP bill in the Senate have gone from a sure thing to a controversial "maybe" after the technology industry flexed their muscles with a grassroots internet protest on Wednesday, January 18. Similarly, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced, on January 20, his decision to postpone a January vote on the PROTECT IP Act, citing the need to "forge a balance between protecting Americans' intellectual property, and maintaining openness and innovation on the internet." Much of the controversy over SOPA and PIPA has centered on provisions that might impact the Domain Name System blocking. Critics of the bills, and the Obama administration, are concerned that PIPA and the latest cybersecurity measures are incompatible.

How do cybersecurity concerns impact the proposed SOPA and PIPA bills? Is a legislative compromise in sight?

Telecommunications advocates, policy-makers, journalists, top officials and the general public, all seeking to trade insights on these important issues, are invited to attend this event of the Broadband Breakfast Club, which includes full American and Continental breakfasts, for as little as $45.00, plus a modest registration fee.

This event is on the record and open to the public.
